Think that veterans, refugees, and abuse victims are the only ones who experience trauma with far-reaching, ongoing effects on their lives?

Trauma isn’t just for those who have experienced things like PTSD or domestic violence. Trauma-related experiences exist for the majority of us–70% of the masses, according to my guest Dr. Helen Sairany. She’s a coach, speaker, author, and war survivor who’s working to educate institutions about trauma, its effects, and even its mere existence within their workforces.

In this episode of the Words of Love podcast, you’ll learn how trauma lies at the root of many issues people face and how it reflects the depth of human experience playing out subconsciously. Dr. Sairany will also discuss the general lack of awareness about trauma and the lack of trauma-informed societal support, how trauma-related behavior can show up in individuals and the workforce, and more.

2:12 - Mass dispossession and how a 7-year-old ended up with a grenade she exchanged for candy

9:33 - How Dr. Sairany handles the lack of awareness that people have regarding their trauma

15:05 - Three leading causes of stress and why you’re affected by trauma even if you don’t see how

19:17 - The need to incorporate trauma-informed assistance at every level and in a systemic fashion

23:31 - How childhood dysfunctionality can show up in the workplace

26:32 - How Dr. Sairany makes her case to organizations on trauma education and supporting their workforce

30:58 - How the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study and questionnaire and how it came to be

33:03 - What causes institutions to reach out to Dr. Sairany for help and how you can work with her to become better informed about trauma
