Welcome back to the show, friends!
If you're new here, I'm happy you found my podcast and we're now connected!
On today's episode I wanted to discuss something that might be a little bit uncomfortable for some people, but I feel is an important topic to speak openly about.
We know how it feels to be gaslight by someone, but have you ever considered that you could also be doing that to yourself and unintentionally/unconsciously causing yourself harm?
If you just said to yourself "no. never even thought of it until now", that is how I felt until just a few weeks ago when this topic was in an Instagram post I read. We can't help ourselves stop doing something that isn't goof for us if we don't even realize we may be doing. So today we're diving into this topic friends, and we're going to chat about five signs we may be gaslighting ourselves and some things we can do to stop!
Quicks Tips
Defending Peoples Bad Behavior: make an effort to be self-aware (journaling can help identify what you're defending) and be willing to make a conscious effort to slowly pull away from that habit and replace it with one that benefits you/your mental health
Blaming Yourself For Everything: try to remember no human can be to blame for everything, we're all just having a human experience and doing the best we can (also give yourself grace)
Questioning Your Decisions: this form of self-doubt may stem from the way you were raised, but others not dreaming/thinking/feeling the way you do doesn't mean anything about you is bad or wrong. Work on allowing people to think what they want, while respecting yourself enough to go for what YOU want
You Have A Strong Inner Critic: practice being self compassionate as you work to quiet/silence your inner critic, but be self aware of what thoughts aren't yours so you can work to consciously change those thoughts
Doubting You Memories; if you know something is a real memory, acknowledge others remember it differently or were affected in a different way but also validate what you experienced and feel is real - others not being affected (as much) by something doesn't mean how you remember/feel doesn't matter
If you resonate with this episode or it hit home, DM me on Instagram (@thisiskaitey is my handle) so we can connect more! If you know someone who needs to hear this, shares the episode on social media and tag me so I can thank you for spreading the word about Triumph After Trauma. I'm so dang grateful we're connected <3
