In this podcast episode, I chat with Dr. Emily Morse, who is a renowned sex therapist and host of the award-winning relationship podcast, “Sex with Emily.” Emily is a MasterClass instructor on sex and communication and has been profiled in The New York Times, Forbes, and Men’s Health, and has been featured by The Today Show, Conan, Entertainment Tonight, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Bustle, and more.

Emily’s work focuses on creating space to talk about the connection between sex and pleasure. Her new book, SMART SEX, guides the reader through expanding their sexual intelligence and owning their sexual desires.

In this episode, Emily and I discuss:

  • The mind-body connection between the brain and how our body responds to sex, and the key role our brain plays in our sex lives.

  • The differences between responsive desire and spontaneous desire.

  • The mindset factors – for better or for worse – which impact our desire for sex.

  • Why talking about sex can be awkward for people and how the three Ts of communication – timing, turf and tone – can change the way we talk about sex and desire.

  • The key role a growth mindset can have when it comes to talking about sex.

  • The five pillars of sexual intelligence which help people become more present and think about sex in a new way.

I appreciate the many ways in which Emily speaks candidly about the importance of prioritizing our sex lives for our overall well-being, and the many connections between sex and all aspects of our lives.
