There’s a gene defect that up to 50 percent of us have, but it’s not commonly discussed. It’s called the MTHFR gene, and if you have it your body can’t break down some key B vitamins like it should. The cascade effect is then a higher risk of heart disease, autoimmune diseases, migraines, cancer, and—because this is the Happy Eating Podcast—mental health conditions. In today’s episode, we break down the MTHFR gene: what it is exactly, what the health effects are if you have it, and a super-simple way to “treat” it.

Supplements Mentioned:

The supplement that Carolyn and her kids take is OrthoMolecular Methyl B12 (contains methyl-folate and B12). This must be ordered through a practitioner which you can do by creating a Fullscript account with us.
