On this episode of Yours Mentally we talk about the media's portrayal of mental health.
We first talk about some movies and shows in which mental illnesses have been overly romanticised.
We then go on to talk about which movies and shows give in to the cliches of mental health and therapy and draw an incorrect picture of it.
We discuss whether news channels and newspapers acknowledge mental health professionals as frontline workers and give importance to the profession as well.
We also talk about which movies do a good job at depicting a mental illness/therapy and give the watchers a holistic understanding of it.
Nishi then goes on to suggest some books, blogs and magazines our listeners read to educate themselves
Lastly, we discuss about the famous Bollywood movie "Dear Zindagi" and whether it did justice to explaining the concept of therapy and its benefits to the audience and we also discuss some aspects of therapy or mental illnesses incorrectly explained in the movie.
