Cecil had an incredible 13-year career in the MLB, playing for five different teams from 1985 to 1998. He was one of the most dominant hitters of his time and is best known for his time with the Detroit Tigers, where he was a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner and three-time All-Star. He led the American League in home runs in both 1990 and 1991 and was the first player to hit 50 home runs in a season in both the American and National Leagues. In addition to his accomplishments on the field, Cecil was a fan favorite and a beloved member of the baseball community.
The conversation in this episode covers a wide range of topics, including Cecil's upbringing and how he got into baseball, his mindset and work ethic during his playing days, and his life after baseball. Cecil also opens up about some of the health challenges he has faced, including his battle with kidney health and the heart condition that forced him to undergo a quadruple bypass surgery in 2004.
