8. Taking your Meditation "To the Streets"
Manage episode 338398566 series 3372246
Has this ever happened to you?
You’re sitting around with a large group of people, perhaps at the table after Thanksgiving dinner. Or maybe you’re cozied up on the couch with your family after watching a movie or playing a board game. Or you could even be alone on your back porch as the sun is setting.
And all of the sudden, without making a conscious effort to do so, you become very present. It’s like you are taking in the moment - what everyone is saying, how they are saying it, how they are feeling, the sounds of nature around you or the cool breeze.
And you are completely relaxed.
This feeling of contentment washes over you, you take a deep breath and enjoy the moment.
If you were nodding your head as you read that scenario, then you have experienced meditation. A "moment of mindfulness" if you will.
For the past few weeks of the Habit Thrive Podcast, we have been talking about different types of meditation, different ways and places to meditate and the simple question of why we meditate.
This week, on Episode #8, we will take our meditation to the streets.
One of the goals of meditation is to be more present more often, and that can happen whether we do so intentionally or not.
And while these relaxing situations can lend themselves to natural meditation, we can “sharpen the saw” of our mindfulness with intentional, formal meditation.
- Sit in quiet meditation every morning
- Meditate with your favorite podcast at night
- Follow a guided meditation once or twice a week
Any method of practiced meditation lets us store that ability to come to and follow our breath in our minds and use it when we are out and about.
This is how we take meditation to the streets.
And this is how we allow meditation to benefit us in situations where we may not be so comfortable or relaxed:
- At the dentist or doctor
- On an airplane
- At a social event
Keep playing with different methods of meditation and breathwork. The more you practice them, the more naturally they will come to you in any scenario.
Don’t forget to join me LIVE on Friday mornings at 7:00 a.m. eastern on my Women’s Wellness Community Facebook page or watch the recordings on this page or on my Youtube Channel.
And remember: Keep being you, nobody else does you better than you!
