Dr. John discusses this approach with respect to a frightening recent incident where he lost sight in his left eye while in Portugal (then got e.coli two days later and had to be taken off the plane by ambulance!). The key to being resilient and bouncing with life’s challenges hinges on one’s ability on one’s ability to look at their emotions without judgment. The Buddhist notion of two darts applies well here. Life is guaranteed to cause pain at times. Pain is the first dart. It is inevitable. The second dart is suffering.
