Green Plates, Healthy Futures: The Dual Impact of Whole Food Plant Based Diets on Human and Environmental Well-Being In our latest episode, we explore the incredible journey towards a healthier and more sustainable future through the lens of whole food plant-based diets. Join us as we unravel the dual impact of these green plates on both human health and environmental well-being with our very special guest Dr Suvetha Kannappan Through this episode, we will learn 1. Leading cause of death due to heart diseases are due to low intake of whole grains, fruit, vegetables and nuts 2. Promoting whole food plant based diet has a dual benefit on planetary health by decreasing water pollution , GHG emission, freshwater and land use and on human health by reducing the incidence of type 2 diabetes, obesity, cholesterol, blood pressure and heart disease 3. Physicians have a responsibility of educating the community and patients on taking responsible health behaviors for their own and the planet's health Dr Suvetha Kannappan Bio - Medical doctor specialized in public health and lifestyle medicine. She is currently working as a professor of community medicine at PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and research, Coimbatore, India. Her special areas of interest are in prevention and health promotion focusing on cardiovascular health and workplace-based health. Due to her keen interest in cardiovascular health promotion, she also is a faculty in the preventive cardiology division of the Department of Cardiology at the same institution where she contributes to patient care, training, and research. The preventive cardiology division has initiated and successfully run several programs for primary and secondary prevention of heart disease at the community and institutional level focusing on the 6 pillars of health- whole food plant-based diet, physical activity, sleep, stress management, substance abuse, and social connectedness. Information about her latest projects - WIN program- Women in Nurturing your health program ..empowering women as change ambassadors for the health of their family and community Heartathon- exclusive running event for women..conducted in sept 2023 on the occasion of world heart day to create awareness on risk factors specific to women
