This month on the Habit Thrive Podcast, we have been talking about Gratitude.

We’ve explored the power of gratitude, how to flex our “gratitude muscles” and all about making gratitude a habit.

This week, on Episode #17, I talk about how gratitude can be a powerful part of our toolbox during challenging times.

It’s easy to find gratitude when the skies are blue, the birds are singing and everything's coming up roses.

Ask someone who just won the lottery what they’re grateful for. Or someone who just had their first child or married their high-school sweetheart. Easy, right?

But what if you asked someone who just lost their job? Their home?

That can be a little more challenging.

Never - in my lifetime, anyway - has there been so much turmoil in the world: From COVID to the war in the Ukraine and other areas, to hurricanes in the States and Eastern Canada to climate change everywhere and a whole host of head-scratching, soul-depleting decisions and individual actions from our fellow human beings.

You may be asking yourself: How does gratitude fit into this mess?

Just give it a try.

Look for the bright spots.

Look for the blessings.

Your favorite pair of socks. A new cell phone. A chat with a friend. A hug from a family member. An encouraging word from a coworker.

There is no such thing as a trivial, selfish or an incorrect gratitude practice!

Gratitude doesn’t solve the “problems” of the world, but it does help us discover those things that we hold most dear.

The things that help us face each day and take action in our lives.

So take a moment today (and tomorrow) to think about what you are grateful for. Then share that gratitude with your loved ones so that they can feel the blessings, too!
