Exercise Addiction... Too Much of a Good Thing?
Manage episode 339224672 series 3362772
There are many positive benefits from exercise such as strengthening muscles, lowering blood pressure, stimulating bone growth, raising metabolism, and enhancing circulation to name a few. So why would it ever be a problem, especially with a dancer or athlete?
Someone with an exercise addiction will depend on the exercise for their self worth, self identity and mood stabilization. They will exercise even when they are sick or injured. The person with an exercise addiction will continually feel the need to increase their exercise. The day will be determined by how much exercise they have completed. This will be in addition to rehearsals, practices, games, performances, etc.
So if you are a dancer or an athlete, you already exercise daily so why would exercise addiction become a problem? Maybe the dancer and athlete believes they need to cross train and it becomes an obsession that the additional exercise is necessary in order to stay in shape or be better than the other dancers or athletes.
Our bodies need to be cared for and although exercise can be a good thing, it can also become a problem., even for those who exercise every day for dance or their sport.
