When I see Joey’s name on the team sheet for a race I’m travelling to, I’m always excited. He is the ultimate teammate both on and off the bike, drawing on his 15 years of racing experience to help the team in almost any race scenario and provide a calming figure on the team bus pre and post-race. We talk about what has changed in the time that Joey has spent at the top of the sport as well as what has worked well for him throughout his career and what he might have done differently. It was a pleasure to shake the race up with Joey in his last outing as a pro and great to sit down and share a beer with him to reflect on his career.
