Chara was diagnosed with Type 1 (incurable) diabetes at age fifteen. Years before and after that diagnosis, she was so committed to not being "too big"; not taking up "too much space"--being the "good girl", in religion, in her family, with her friends. Well, it caught up with her wore her down.
