Sam and Emma speak with David Dayen, executive editor at The American Prospect and co-host of the Organized Money podcast, to discuss the continued fallout from last Tuesday's elections. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the ongoing recriminations of Dems’ major losses in last week’s elections, a GOP trifecta, Trump’s border czar, Elise Stefanik, Massachusetts teachers’ labor action, Trump’s hush money conviction, and the House’s fast-tracking of a bill perfectly suited to Trump’s fashy aims, also touching on how Trump’s deportation plan has been drastically understated. David Dayen then joins, diving right into the broader context of this election within an era of overwhelmingly volatile politics, both within the US – as just the third instance of three-consecutive one-term presidencies – and globally – amid international anti-incumbent backlash – and why so much of that insecurity is a direct reflection of an economically insecure electorate with little-to-no faith in their political institutions (or those in control of them). Expanding on this, Dayen walks through the contrasting narratives around the US economy, with aggregate statistics and long-term predictions not reflecting the complete disappearance of a phenomenally successful pandemic-era social safety net, rising food and housing costs amid inflation, before he, Sam, and Emma step back to reflect on the long-term narrative of inaction and piecemeal action from the Biden Administration when it came to his primary agenda item of Build Back Better. After expanding on the internal contradictions that have held the Democratic Party back so thoroughly over the last decade, David dives into the major threat of a prepared Trump Administration under Project 2025, and wraps up with the need to push our political institutions (be they media or state) to keep emphasizing oversight and accountability as we head into Trump 2.0.

And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma unpack the expansive plans Trump has for his recently-named border Czar, and listen to Philippe Reines – advisor to Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris’ campaigns – give his take on why the Democratic party should double down on the anti-woke.
