Patricia Neubauer was born in an East German town and witnessed the wall come down when she was 7 years old. As she grew up, she became obsessed with running, sought out the help of a former Olympic medalist coach, and went all in. She competed nationally in the mid to long distance track events, and had a lot of success, until she got so skinny and so sick that she had to sit out of the sport for 2 years to try to regain her health. Patricia shares in this episode the ugly side of athletes who try to maintain the perfect power -to - weight ratio, but who often do it at the expense of hurting themselves more. After she got her health back, she was offered a scholarship to run for a college in New York City, where she fell more in love with running and eventually ended up moving to California. Patricia got a bike as a way to get around her city, and ended up giving triathlon a go. She found that she had a knack for it, and has now competed in everything from Sprint distance, all the way up to Ironman distance.

She not only holds a full time job, but trains religiously-squeezing in workouts on her lunch break, and then manages to work on her non-profit. Her non-profit, Neu-power Consulting, is dedicated to helping less fortunate athletes obtain scholarships and visas to the U.S. -without the heavy price tag that many other "consulting sports agencies" charge. She shares her experience of being able to train in Kenya many years ago, and seeing how dedicated the young Kenyan runners were, but how much they lacked in resources to be able to get out of poverty and compete. We even talk about the "dark" side of some of the sports agencies in Kenya, which will blow your mind.
