She found the real reason behind his behavior: he had made a solemn promise to her mother. You see, Barbara's mother had a big secret—she and her nine siblings were sexually molested. Barbara realized and understood the boundaries her dad put forth. This inspired Barbara to write her book, "Yes! I Said No!" (link below). Childhood trauma is so deep; it causes dis-ease in the body that leads to disease. Barbara shares how seeking a counselor can help lift the burden inside your heart. It's life-changing.
