In this episode, we're sitting down with Jan Dieleman, President of Cargill Ocean Transportation, a maritime shipping logistics company. Jan has been with Cargill for over 24 years and has witnessed the evolution of regulations and sustainability practices in maritime trade. He’s experienced in supply chain management at Cargill, but also works tirelessly towards sustainable and green initiatives as the chair of the Global Maritime Forum and through his board role at Right Ship.

Cargill was founded 155 years ago and currently operates in 70 countries and regions. Both as a food producer and ship operator, they experience the changes in regulation and public opinion – and know change is necessary to drive both commercial and sustainable impact.

As a logistics company, Cargill Ocean Transportation has a lot to consider when moving cargo sustainably, from packing the shipping container right to innovations in ship operation, they have room to make changes.

In this conversation, Jan takes us through how global trade, maritime shipping, and sustainability have evolved throughout his career. He considers how Cargill's influence makes it an important first mover and discusses what he thinks are some of the levers we might pull on our journey to zero emissions.
