Quotes:
(00:07:52) What we did do additively is we started to look at beyond the technology, what is it within the people and the processes that inhibited us from making those adoptions, and that we had to have something that was life threatening in order for us to make those necessary changes.
(00:09:20) If it wasn't disrupting their wallets, why should they change? So I think those were the things that made for the things that we need to do to have this conversation. Starters that we didn't struggle the way we did in the past because they were finally at a point where they are personally and this is so scary to think that where someone personally began to feel uncomfortable and felt impacted, that then it was okay for them to make those changes. That's kind of the place where COVID took us.
(00:22:33) It frees your mind. We've got to be open and curious, whether you're talking about technology or you're talking about health care, or even if you're into the stock exchange, right? If you're an investor, broker, whatever, you've got to be curious. You have to be curious about what's going on in your market.
(00:29:00) Be part of the conversation. We all need to show up and stop pointing to other people and saying that other people are keeping us out.
(00:35:33) We just need to find balance. Yeah, that's where I went before, right, when I said, okay, I love telehealth, I love the option of telehealth, but don't you dare tell me that the only way I'm going to be able to interact with you is in telehealth.
(00:41:03) But it's just to say that I think we have the opportunity to expand our capacity, our ability to see things in an entirely different way. When I use AI, I'm often using it to have a philosophical conversation with myself.
(00:47:16) Children are able to learn multiple foreign languages. They can learn to program very early. And we do see that in some of those great technologies like code, where the kids are learning super early, they're learning logical thinking, like logic, which is really awesome. But we need to be doing more of that, and we need to make those are the kind of standards I'd like to see being driven in schools.
(00:53:31) But somehow Harry met Sally and became first. And I think that's because it is about the people, relationships, and the friends that we make along the way that make life so beautiful.

The world is changing faster than ever before, and it’s becoming increasingly important for us to understand the role technology plays in this transformation. Fran Ayalasomayajula, the CEO of RTL Innovations and Reach Healthcare, recently joined Tammera Hollerich on her podcast to discuss the importance of using technology in a meaningful and sustainable way.
Fran and Tammera discussed how technology can be used to empower people, create opportunities, foster collaboration, and promote creativity and innovation. They also discussed the challenges of using technology, such as the lack of investment in femtech and the lack of human connection in technology and buildings. Finally, they discussed how technology can be used to have philosophical conversations with oneself and how it can bring positive change to the world.
One of the key points that Fran and Tammera discussed was the lack of investment in femtech and the work that people of color are engaged in. This is a huge issue that needs to be addressed and rectified in order for technology to be used to its full potential. Tammera also discussed how liberating technology can be, allowing people to conduct podcasts from anywhere in the world.
Fran and Tammera discussed how healthcare systems are turning away patients who are five minutes late, which is disrespectful and arrogant. They also discussed how healthcare facilities are lacking the socializing and connecting that used to be present in doctor's offices. Tammera mentioned that her father does not have an Alexa, but it was able to respond when she said its name. This shows how technology can be used to make everyday tasks more convenient, such as gardening and cleaning. For example, Tammera's brother in Germany was able to identify a plant in his garden by taking a picture and running a search on the image.
Fran and Tammera also discussed the potential for a global revolution or liberation in the next 50 years. Tammera suggested that technology can be used to have philosophical conversations with oneself, and she believes that technology can bring positive change to the world, but it will be hard change. Fran's company, RTL Innovations, is a benefit corporation that takes data findings from research and turns them into solutions that benefit the populations that the nonprofit is serving. Reach Healthcare, another company that Fran is involved with, is focused on improving the overall experience of healthcare for both patients and providers.
The biggest challenges with technology are making too many layers of complexity and making interfaces easier to use. Tammera and Fran discussed the lack of human connection in technology and buildings, and Tammera mentioned that technology has given people artistic freedom to be creative in ways they never have before. Tammera believes that people should use more of their mental capacity and not rely solely on technology.
Organizations and companies are often so invested in the way that they've always done business, and they are content with the amount of revenue that they are generating. This has led to a lack of adoption of telehealth, with only 30% to 40% of healthcare facilities using it. The old approaches to healthcare and the old paradigm itself have not shifted. Money is driving a lot of these decisions, leading to a number of maternity deserts, not just in rural areas, but even in urban areas of the United States. House Bill 711 is throwing transparency and allowing employers to now incentivize employees with higher quality healthcare facilities.
Technology should be an enabler of choices, and people have the right to have choices when it comes to healthcare, such as the option of leveraging telehealth or going into an office. During the COVID pandemic, nursing homes were locked down and people were unable to visit their loved ones, leading to a decline in mental health. Older adults are often assumed to not be comfortable with technology, but a study showed that when technology is simple and has value, they are more likely to use it. Older adults are concerned about being taken advantage of when it comes to technology. Every generation has had the same attitude towards technology, such as the baby boomers being concerned about MTV and the current generation being concerned about TikTok.
Technology is advancing at an exponential rate, and people need to remain curious and engaged in order to keep up. It is important to understand the role that technology plays in our lives and use it in a meaningful and sustainable way. Technology can be used to empower people, create opportunities, foster collaboration, and promote creativity and innovation. It can also be used to have philosophical conversations with oneself and bring positive change to the world. With the right approach, technology can be a powerful tool for good.
