It’s no secret that the Automotive Museum’s building is rumoured to be one of the most haunted in the area. I’m paranormal investigator Brittney Crabb, and I’ve visited the museum several times searching for its ghosts. I feel some spirits return to spend time with their beloved cars and others haunt the building itself. Either way, this place is full of traces of the past.

Over the years, visitors and staff have reported sensing the presence of Cameron, an Oshawa-born soldier of the First World War who was killed in Belgium, and whose name is listed on the Oshawa War Memorial across the street. Thankfully, he is consistently described as a friendly, but mischievous jokester, often blamed for electronics malfunctioning or misplaced items. Others have reported seeing a phantom mechanic from the building’s early years or believe there is a spectral security guard, still on patrol.

For some reason, several of the most frequently-felt resident ghosts seem to congregate around this ‘57 Dodge Regent. Psychics have reported encountering the spirits of a playful little boy and little girl, who may have passed away next door at a house that once occupied the site of what is now the Museum’s parking lot.

Unfortunately, the history of this Regent doesn’t give many clues as to why it’s such a focus for hauntings. A mid-ranged 1950s family car built in Windsor, Ontario, it was owned by an elderly widow who kept it well-maintained. If it has any residual spirits attached to it, they are the spirits of the covered parking garages where it spent much of its life, out of the rain and free from wear and tear. Still, the Regent is a close sister model to the Plymouth Fury, famously featured in Steven King’s classic haunted-car horror novel Christine, so you never know…
