US Healthcare and Inequity
Manage episode 337229473 series 3380220
We want to talk to you a bit about health inequity in the United States. Racial discrimination, both intentional and trained, is rampant in the US healthcare system. Racism is ingrained in our current healthcare system in the US, and that of course negatively affects the kind of care that underserved communities receive and the health outcomes that the people of these communities have. We talk about privilege, and how having privilege can make it hard to see the challenges others are forced to face, or makes it easy to think that equality is a sufficient substitute for equity. Finally, we bring it all back around to AMR, to explain how people receive different levels of treatment for AMR, often not because of differences in infections and symptoms but rather because of differences in how the system perceives them. This topic is incredibly important, so we hope you’ll give us a listen.
ARMOR on the Air is a student-led podcast based out of the University of Colorado Boulder. We discuss the antimicrobial resistance crisis and what we as members of the public can do to help! Join our hosts, graduate student Dana and Danish pharmacist Karoline, as we learn more about superbugs and how to stop them!
ARMOR is an outreach organization at CU Boulder. We promote safe and responsible use of antibiotics, support research into new antibiotics, and encourage the public to take steps in their daily lives to limit development of more superbugs!
Thank you to Prod. Riddiman for our intro/outro music! Serenity - Lofi Hip Hop Beat
