What's in our glass: Screaming Goat Gewurztaminer, vintage 2020 out of Monterey, CA. It is 12.64% alcohol and retails for 19.99/bottle through the Traveling Vineyard. (Renee is awesome)
Gewurztraminer is one of the 4 Alsace noble grapes. The others being Riesling, Pinot Gris and Muscat. Alsace is located between Germany and France. The grape s German but the style is French. The are has the sunniest and most reliable growing season weather of all France. This is because the Vosges Mountains shield it from storms. The word Gewurz translates to spicy and traminer means grape.
If you have a sweeter Gewurztraminer, it should be severed at 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit and a dry one at 50-55 degrees.
Today we are pairing it with white cheddar popcorn, bacon, salami, goat cheese, cream cheese and quince spread, cream cheese and pear spread and HEB wheat crisps. We read that spicy foods like Thai would go amazing with it.
The second wine we tasted was the Trimbach Gewurztraminer out of the Alsace region. It is 14% alcohol an retails for 23.99/bottle at HEB
Join us while we chat about out wine club memberships at Hye Meadow and Pedernales Cellars in Fredericksburg, TX.
