Amazon best selling book claims and the 16,000 book categories is the title of S.09 E.04 n.137 of the FSG Brand Messaging and Optics Podcast, Wait What Really OK hosted by FSG Messaging and Optics Strategist Loren Weisman.
Does it ever seem like there are way too many authors claiming to be best sellers of books you’ve never heard of”
Have you noticed that some of these authors will spend a lot of time promoting a ranking but seem to have no skill win promoting the book it self?
Also, have you noticed when you search how to become an Amazon best seller, there are hundreds of services that will guarantee a momentary ranking so you can claim to have an Amazon Best selling book, but none of these seem to be selling all that many books?
And have you noticed that some of the ebook rankings are actually referring to free downloads over actual sales?
Did you know authors can buy reviews?
And are you aware there are 16000 book categories on Amazon? And that some book promotion companies will advise you to list in a sub category with very few books just to be able to move a few books and claim to be a best seller.
Add to this how the term best seller and the optics around it is starting to create more questions in many than ever before.
I find this to be a problem and at the same time it can take away from the authority and authenticity of genuine best sellers.
I believe it is time to focus on creating a book if you have a book in you and not writing a book to seem like you are an authority.
“Publishing a book does not make you and authority or an expert. Authorship does not equal authority.”
And would you openly share you had a company write a book for you, someone from your team or an AI system to create a book?
I believe if you do not have a book in you, dont write one.
I believe if you do have a book in you, consider promoting it with authentic, authoritative content and messaging that highlights the book beyond its ranking.
I believe connecting with a publisher or editor if you are self publishing... consider looking for the guidance to set a solid foundation of truth with your book and not just focus on
Consider honoring your audience by sharing pieces of the book and elements that supplement what is there from quotes, to videos to audios to images.
This over sharing rankings. And if you have a genuine best seller, consider the tactics of a more authentic promotion since so many out there are making false claims that can create a perception that you are even if you aren't.
Consider grounding yourself and your book in honest, moral and authentic strategies and tactics to promote your book over using false hype, false pretenses and false numbers.
