Gevian Dargan, former assistant-editor at Milestone Comics, joins Wes for “It’s Complicated” to discuss hot-button issues from todays culture. Today Gevian and Wes discuss whether or not WWE can reinvent themselves as a real wrestling program once again. Ever since WCW died 20 years ago WWE has reigned supreme as the preeminent worldwide leader in sports entertainment. The lack of a true competitor led to brand stagnation even as profits grow. AEW have only existed as a wrestling brand for 2 years. Yet they have already slayed WWE’s third brand NXT in a head-to-head confrontation. Can AEW do what wrestling fans have begged for for years and challenge WWE Raw or Smackdown? Thus far, AEW has proven a viable alternative for wrestling fans. Now they need to show the masses that pro wrestling, not sports entertainment, is what produced world-wide phenomenons like Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin and The Rock. Once things for sure, WWE’s product will never improve until they are challenged to compete for their fans and dollars.
