The Recasting Couch: Ep. 74 Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Manage episode 221943511 series 1547458
Scott Pilgrim vs the World is an ode to video games, but it barely references any specifically. It’s weird, but it makes the movie feel more “real” in its unique universe. This movie’s outsized budget (85-90 million) doesn’t necessarily show up on the screen, but I say that not trying to take anything away from the movie, which we both really enjoyed talking about and recasting. Edgar Wright does a fine job directing, and Michael Cera is adorable and a total dick at the same time. It didn’t make our jobs easy. It’s a fine line he walks. More than anything, this movie is a great ensemble piece. Kieran Culkin, Alison Pill, and Jason Schwartzman all provide some really fun auxiliary performances.
In addition to video games, music is a huge part of the experience. Beck wrote all of the music for the Sex Bob-ombs, and you can tell he put some love into it. They totally rock. Broken Social Scene, Nigel Godrich (Radiohead Producer), and Dan the Automator all contribute to this killer soundtrack. Although that might explain where a lot of that 90 million went… Tune in for a fun one.
We want to thank everyone for listening, and a special shout out to all of our new listeners. We like to talk a whole lot of garbage on Twitter, so hit us up @recastingpod, and we want to hear your hottest takes. Time is running out to submit a subject for our Recasting Couch Roundtable series, so if there’s anything you want to see us research and run our yaps about, you can send us an email at recastingpod@gmail.com. We’ve also been guesting on some of our friend’s pods, so check out our episodes on @jayandbobminute, @davemadeaminute and @looselybom. Catch you all next week!
