- The etymology: Greek origins, meaning “two-colored”. It refers to glass with a special optical coating which allows it to reflect all light except certain wavelengths. Lights that change colors use this type of glass almost exclusively for its resistance to heat-related fading, and for the very pure color of the transmitted light.
