Manage episode 312563447 series 3237943
This episode is for my service providers. Sometimes you will be responsible for keeping files of yoru client’s work. You may be wondering what to do with the files after the assignment is over. In this video, I will explain why you should keep a copy of your client files, where to keep these backup files, and how long you should keep them.
I always keep a copy of my client’s files. This practice has saved me tons of time. I was working on a client’s file, went to where she kept all her files and what I was working on was GONE. After my initial panic went away, I remembered that I had a copy saved. Yes, my anal rentetiveness paid off. I had a copy saved in two places which meant I was able to do the work I needed to do faster.
Why you should keep a copy of your client files
Something could happen to their computer to cause the file to be destroyed.
They may ask you to do revisions.
Where to keep backup files
You should keep backup files on your computer’s hard drive, on an external hard drive, and
on the cloud.
How long to keep these files for?
This is not a hard and fast rule. I usually keep the files for as long as the client is active and then for a year thereafter. You never know what can happen. It’s important to take care of the client before and after the sale.
