Today on the podcast, we are grateful to have Former Lynden Christian Girls Basketball Coach Curt De Haan with us today.
De Haan spent 34 years on the varsity bench and 38 years overall at Lynden Christian High School. De Haan has a 772-149 career record, the most wins for a high school girls varsity basketball coach in the State of Washington. His JV teams were 71-1 during his time as the LC JV Coach. In Coach De Haan’s 34 years as a head coach, his teams made 31 state appearances. His teams made 23 semi-final appearances, 13 state championship game appearances, with 8 state championships.
Coach De Haan has never had a losing season and has won 20 or more games in 30 seasons with undefeated teams in 1996 and 2008. His last game as a head coach in 2014, De Haan won the teams’ 8th state championship.
We talk about the championships and wins, but I think what is more impressive is that he has had the opportunity to make a difference in his player’s lives through basketball and his faith. His goal was always to help young ladies not only become better basketball players, but better people.
Coach De Haan’s other highlights include:
· Runner-up for Seattle Times Coach of the Century in 2000.
