2020 - # 18 - GRANGER'S ANDY AFFHOLTER
Manage episode 344109822 series 3161080
Today on the podcast, we have one of my favorite coaches on here today, Former Girls Basketball Coach at Granger High School Andy Affholter.
In 21 years as a head coach between Mabton and Granger, Affholter was 412-126. In his rookie season with Mabton, he guided them to a 22-win season and a state trophy. Affholter took Mabton to state 4 more times before stepping away to watch his own kids play at Zillah.
When he decided to get back into the coaching game, he stayed small school and took the girls basketball job at Granger High School, where his success with that program was second to none.
Affholter led the Granger girls to 9 state tournament trophies in 10 years, including back-to-back state championship games in 2009-2010.
There is no doubt that Affholter could have left for bigger schools, but continued at the small schools because it was always a desire for Coach Affholter to coach at a small school. The Toppenish grad loved the State B tournament in Spokane.
Coach hasn’t retired from coaching just yet. He still has grandsons he is coaching so he will still be at it for quite a while…
