YOU HAVE SPIRITUAL GIFTS: DISCOVER AND USE THEM ROMANS 12:3-8; 1 CORINTHIANS 12, 14; EPHESIANS 4:7-14 SEPTEMBER 17, 2023 SESSION 2 è Review: Romans 12:3-8 – “Motivation Gifts” è Ministry Gifts: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 è Desire Spiritual Gifts, especially Prophecy: 1 Corinthians 14:1, 3 Prophetic Gifted Voices Today: è Speak forth boldly the Truth of God. è Speak Truth from God messages that are righteous, corrective. May be warnings to allow hearers to prepare for and sometimes prevent painful consequences. (Acts 21) è The Holy Spirit gives the gifts and operates the gifts as He wills! (1 Corinthians 12:11). The Holy Spirit’s operation of prophecy brings edification (building up), exhortation (encouragement, loving instruction and perhaps correction), and comfort (presence, mercy, compassion). è The operation of the gift of prophecy in the Church is to edify, exhort, comfort (1 Corinthians 14:3) è Gifts of the Holy Spirit: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 for ministry • The word of wisdom: the special ability to see issues and circumstances from God’s perspective and the skill to apply that Spirit-given perspective in life situations. The word of knowledge: The special ability to receive information from the Spirit of God which does not originate from the natural human sources. This gift operates for God’s purposes. TO BE CONTINUED è “Guardrails” for the prophetic gift • Prophetic words are NOT equal to Scripture’s authority and direction. • Prophetic voices are NOT to be given the place of the Spirit of God, Who is the Believers Teacher, Guide, and Source of Truth! (John 14 – John 16) è Tests For Trusting Prophecy • Does the message line up with properly contexted Scripture? • Does the message “bear witness” with the Holy Spirit’s witness in me? • Does the message stand the test of time? • Does the prophet walk in order, submission, accountability to spiritual oversight and order? (Will he/she listen to other’s “words”, admit it when mishearing, and stay in place of humble service? (1 Corinthians 14:29-32; 1 Corinthians 14:40)
