David says "Alex won’t like me saying this but he was a quite remarkable

student, getting a paper out in Nature Communications showing from his work on

transmissible venereal tumour in dogs that mitochondria move between cells, the

first time this had ever been demonstrated. But as well as being passionate

about science he was and still is ultra keen on veterinary practice too,

spending his first year after graduation living and working as a vet in the
