Las Vegas, NV — On May 5, 2021, 2-year-old Amari Nicholson was reported missing by his mother Tayler Nicholson, who was out of town in Colorado caring for her mother who had surgery. Tayler left Amari in the care of her boyfriend, Terrell Rhodes for five days. Terrell claimed that a woman knocked on the door just before 6am at the Emerald Suites Hotel where the family were leaving at the time. The woman identified herself as Amari’s paternal Aunt, although Amari had been estranged from his father for over a year, Terrell claimed that the woman fled the hotel with Amari. The police put out an immediate Amber Alert for 2-year-old Amari and the community came out in droves to search for the toddler. Suspicion quickly turned to Amari’s father and his family, although there as a “no-contact” order in place due to past domestic violence incidents. As the days went on, Tayler and Terrell faced backlash from the public for their nonchalant reactions to Amari’s disappearance in a series of news conferences that they participated in and soon their stories began to unravel and two families began to point the finger at each other. Cincinnati, Ohio— 29-year-old Nyteisha Lattimore was a certified nurse's assistant, and her only focus was being a devoted mother to her two young sons, 9-year-old Niko and 3-year-old Nylo Lattimore. Nyteisha kept in contact with her family on a daily basis through text messages and social media posts, but no one has seen nor heard from Nyteisha and 3-year-old Nylo since December 4, 2020. On December 12, 2020, a 911 call came into The Hamilton County Sherrif's Office from a security guard who was working at a construction site, when he stumbled across a large bag near The Purple People Bridge in Cincinnati. When he opened the contents of the bag, the shock and horror of what was inside would throw this entire case on its head and would launch the largest statewide recovery mission in Ohio’s history. Cincinnati, OH—20-year-old Deasia Watkins was born into a troubled and dysfunctional environment from the very beginning of her life. Deasia’s mother and father struggled with mental health and substance abuse issues and the family often lived in squalor which caused Deasia’s development to stall to the point where she was nonverbal up until age 4. Job and Family Services were involved with the family several times. Deasia was subsequently removed from her mother’s care, by court order and placed with a family friend, at which time she started to show signs of improvement, but the damage had already been done. In 2015, Deasia gave birth to a baby girl - Jayniah, and during her first few weeks of life, Deasia had a psychotic episode and was subsequently admitted to a psychiatric hospital where she was diagnosed with postpartum psychosis, a condition that is often marked by hallucinations, delusions and impaired judgement. Deasia’s infant daughter, 3-month-old Jayniah was then placed in the care of Deasia’s Aunt, and Deasia was ordered to have no contact with the baby. On March 16, 2015, this case takes a horrific and tragic turn and is one of the worst cases of Maternal Filicide in The United States to date. Maple Heights, OH– Labor Day Weekend is often a time for family barbeques, church picnics and cookouts to celebrate the official end of Summer. But on this particular Labor Day weekend, September 4, 2023, would turn into horror for two families. 30-year-old Mercedes Carter was 7 months pregnant with her first child with husband 31-year-old Norbert “Trea” Carter. The couple were newly married, in love, and excited to welcome their first child together. Mercedes and Trae had arrived at Stafford Park that afternoon to drop off a stroller to her mother. Vancouver, WA – 27-year-old Meshay Melendez was a devoted mother to her 7-year-old daughter Layla Stewart whom she absolutely adored. The two were inseparable and often made Tik Tok videos dancing together. Layla Stewart was a smart and shining kid, she was ahead of most of the kids in her 2nd grade class, and she was adored by her family and classmates. Meshay Melendez started dating 28-year-old Kirkland Warren in an on and off again relationship that was marked with constant threats and incidents of domestic violence. In one incident, Kirkland was accused of firing shots into Meshay's apartment window, while her daughter was inside the residence. He was arrested for this incident, and Meshay was granted a protection order, that Kirkland violated almost immediately, this case highlights the injustices of a system that allowed a dangerous man to be out on bond despite his criminal past against women and pending murder charge which could have prevented this tragedy from happening. Meshay Melendez and Layla Stewart were last seen on March 12, 2023, and the two were missing for 10 days before the tragic discovery of their bodies. Jacksonville, FL– 34-year-old Tasheka Young was a devoted single mother of two children a 1-year-old daughter, and a 3-year-old son, whom she absolutely adored. Tasheka was also a beloved Radio Personality widely known as “Tysheeks” at Power 106.1 Tru Hip Hop Station. Tasheka’s life from the outside looking in was nearly perfect, but many in her inner circle knew about the toxic relationship and incidents of domestic violence that she suffered at the hands of her kids' father, and lover 35-year-old, Bursey Armstrong. On July 23, 2022, a 911 call from a concerned downstairs neighbor claimed she heard loud stomping coming from upstairs in Tasheka’s apartment around 1:30am followed by a loud banging noise, the caller goes on to say that she heard a woman say - “I love you, don't do this” followed by what she thought were gunshots, and then silence. The next day, Tasheka’s mother conducted a welfare check after Bursey Armstrong reached out to her, stating that he hadn't been able to get in contact with Tasheka. Tasheka's mother discovered her daughter’s lifeless body in the bedroom of her apartment. The children had been left alone in the residence for more than 14 hours unattended. Elyria, Ohio–-On August 31, 2022, 30-year-old Bonita Wright claimed that she woke up and found her boyfriend 28-year-old Keyron Ficklin unresponsive and cold. Bonita immediately ran to a neighbor's home to borrow a phone to contact the police, but the night before Keyron and Bonita got into a heated argument when she confronted him about rumors that he was cheating on her. Bonita admitted that she was intoxicated and couldn’t remember the details of what happened that night. Police were called to the home regarding that particular incident, but no one was arrested. 2 hours later, Keyron would be dead. The couple’s relationship started out toxic and ended that way and they were together for less than a year. Bonita claimed self-defense, but what would be uncovered over the course of the investigation would question whether or not this was a true self-defense case. Jacksonville, FL — 61-year-old Cassandra Valentin was found murdered in her Moncrief home. Her live-in boyfriend, Marvin Williams was the number one suspect. When police caught up with Marvin days later, he told police that an argument started over a football game and escalated to an argument about past domestic abuse that Marvin inflicted on Cassandra. The relationship was toxic from the very beginning but Marvin and Cassandra had been in a relationship for over a decade. Family members reported that “they knew this day would come.” Marvin told police that Cassandra wielded a knife after the couple had been drinking, a fight for the knife would ensue, claiming self-defense, but only one of them would make it out alive. Shaker Heights, Ohio— 45-year-old Aisha Fraser was a beloved 6th grade teacher at Woodbury Elementary School. Aisha was a dedicated and committed teacher for over 20 years, often helping children with special learning needs. Aisha was also the mother to two young daughters. Largo, FL — On September 2, 2018, 23-year-old Charisse Stinson, reported her 2-year-old son Jordan Belliveau, Jr. missing. Charisse told police that an unknown man approached her in a vehicle while she was walking down the street with her toddler son, he offered her a ride and offered to pay her $150 for a sexual favor. Charisse agreed to the ride and the sexual favor, but then she alleges that the man knocked her unconscious after she performed the sexual favor, and the unknown male kidnapped her son, she alleges that she woke up hours later in a local park, and her son was nowhere to be found.
