Promoting and recognizing mental health in the workplace is vital for fostering a positive and productive work environment. It only enhances the employee experience by creating an atmosphere where individuals can thrive personally and professionally, but also contributes to overall organizational success by building a resilient and engaged workforce. From offering mental health resources and counselling services to creating a stigma-free culture that encourages support and open dialogue, businesses are increasingly acknowledging the importance of addressing mental health concerns in the workplace.

Amy Stein is a purpose driven social impact and retail executive. She is very proud to be the Executive Director of the Pixel Foundation (formerly Henry’s Foundation), which envisions a Canada where creative expression, in all its forms, is recognized as an effective way to promote, support and improve mental health. With over 20 years of corporate experience across all areas of business, Amy loves the challenge of building something from nothing. She is passionate about defining a strategy and creating the infrastructure to execute on it, and she has the natural ability to get a team working together toward the same goal. Above all, she is driven by the opportunity to use her corporate skills to make a social impact that really matters. While the Pixel Foundation, launched just before the pandemic, Amy stayed the course and positioned the foundation’s reputation as a strong voice in the mental health community in three short years.

Throughout her career, Amy has been a vital part of Henry’s, Canada’s greatest camera store—the fourth-generation family business started by her great-grandfather in 1909 that became the largest digital imaging retailer in Canada. From working at the sales counter alongside her grandmother as a little girl, Amy went on to work in nearly every part of the business—from merchandising, to marketing, to purchasing, to logistics, to sales—and she sat on the board of directors of both Henry’s and its foundation. Amy graduated from Dalhousie University with her MBA and Bachelor of Recreation in Sports Marketing.

In this episode, Amy shares her personal family experiences with mental health, the importance of her work with the Pixel Foundation, how to help others experiencing mental health challenges, workplace strategies, and more!
