"An hour in, this is where I think the film jettisons the thoughtful, melancholic and reflective tone for action and it's all the worse for it."

Sarah from Weird Horizon returns with yet another feel good film, containing multiple dog deaths. No crushed hands this time. Sarah and Sean then do a really in-depth analysis of the film, before watching the alternative ending and give their verdict on it.

Discussion Points:

-Dog deaths in film.

-The hype for this film back in 2007.

-Will Smith's powerhouse performance.

-Reviewing this film in a post-pandemic.

-The shift in the tone of this film.

-The beautiful soundtrack.

-Sarah enjoys the little details of how Robert has survived the last three years.

-Why Sean wants to turn the film off after an hour.

-Expectations versus reality, e.g. the Statue of Liberty's head.

-The strength of the melancholic, slow-burn scenes.

-Sean's version of the third act.

-Sarah and Sean both loved the flashback scenes.

-The lack of single-handed films; 'The Shallows' starring Blake Lively is another good example.

-Sarah believes locking yourself in a room is not a solution.

-Robert's view of the infected as 'monsters'.

-Big American flags.

-Sean sings the American National Anthem.

Raised Questions:

-Does Sean need to introduce himself? (That's not meant to sound pretentious)

-Was 2007 overloaded with apocalypse films?

-Why does Sean insult the majority of his audience?

-Is the CGI egregious?

-Would this film have been better if they hadn't shown the 'monsters' at all?

-Do they waste the hour of build up in the last half an hour?

-Should they have kept Robert Neville as the only human in the film?

-Are you interested in the sequel?

-Which medication was Robert taking after his dog dies?

-What was he saving that bacon for?

-Where is the extended cut of this film, seriously?

-Do the 'monsters' attempt to stay away from Robert?

Zombie Recommendations:

-In The Flesh (2013-2014), a BBC Three TV Series.

-28 Days Later (2002).

-George A. Romero's Land of the Dead (2005).
