We had the privilege of hosting Dr. Charles (Charlie) Faint, a retired Army officer with an impressive 27-year military career spanning the Infantry and Military Intelligence branches. With seven combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan under his belt, including assignments at prestigious units such as the 5th Special Forces Group, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, and the Joint Special Operations Command, as well as two teaching tours at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Dr. Faint brings a wealth of experience to the table. He is a decorated military veteran and a committed academic, holding six college degrees, including a Doctor of Business Administration from Temple University and a Master of Arts in International Relations from Yale University.
In his post-military life, Charlie now serves as the Chair for the Study of Special Operations at the Modern War Institute at West Point, where he continues shaping future military leaders' minds. Additionally, he is the visionary behind The Havok Journal and the driving force behind The Second Mission Foundation.
In this engaging episode, Dr. Faint delves into the nuanced concept of 'commander's intent' and explores how effective Army leadership cultivates resilience within teams under this foundational principle. Drawing upon his extensive battlefield experience and academic acumen, he unravels the strategies that empower individuals and units to thrive amidst uncertainty and adversity.
