Manage episode 426870322 series 3016976
Dear OBC Family,
This week we will examine the ongoing implications of the Great Flood as we consider 2 Peter 3. Lord willing, we will return to Genesis the following week. I encourage you to read this chapter in preparation for worship and consider what it means to grow in grace and the knowledge of Christ as we await the return of our Lord.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Blessings in Christ,
Pastor Ben
Discussion & Response Questions ( 2 Peter 3:1-18)
Consider how Peter writes repeatedly to remind the church about things that they already know. Why is it important for them (and for us) to receive reminders like this?
What are the characteristics of scoffers? How might we recognize them, and how does Peter help the church know how to respond to them?
What is the Great Flood’s continuing significance for today?
Consider the work of God’s Word in this text. What has God’s Word done, and what is God’s Word doing?
How does this text speak of God’s judgment and the day of the Lord?
What is God’s relationship to time? Consider how this relates to God’s patience and the church’s waiting. Why is the church waiting, and to what end is God patient?
What are the primary views when it comes to the passing away of the heavens and the earth, and the coming of the new heavens and new earth? Which view do you find the most convincing biblically, and why?
As the saints wait for the return of Christ, what should characterize their waiting?
How might the church guard against being carried away and destabilized?
What does growth in grace and knowledge of the Lord look like practically?
How ought we to respond to this text?
