Recently, I've heard the term 'karepi' being used in place of 'kareshi' (boyfriend). At first, I thought it was a mishearing, but it appears to be a new word used by young girls. There are also terms like 'kare pippi' and 'sukipi' being used. I got an explanation of these words from Tora-kun, a current high school student. Along with these, he also explained other terms like 'oshi' (favorite) and 'hako oshi' (being a fan of the whole group), as well as trends in the behavior of young people related to these terms."

大阪(おおさか)から四国(しこく)に引っ越し(ひっこし)た友達(ともだち)と久しぶり(ひさしぶり)に会い(あい)ました。 大阪(おおさか)という大都市(だいとし)での子育て(こそだて)に疑問(ぎもん)を感じ(かんじ)て、自然(しぜん)豊か(ゆたか)な四国(しこく)に引っ越し(ひっこし)た友達(ともだち)ですが、どうやら引っ越し(ひっこし)た先(さき)の人間関係(にんげんかんけい)にあまり馴染め(なじめ)なかったようです。 人間関係(にんげんかんけい)というよりも、四国(しこく)という島(しま)の土地柄(とちがら)にも関係(かんけい)する人々(ひとびと)の人間性(にんげんせい)に慣れ(なれ)なかったと言い(いい)ました。 これは何(なに)も四国(しこく)に限っ(かぎっ)たことではなく、沖縄(おきなわ)や、日本(にほん)自体(じたい)にも言える(いえる)ことだと思い(おもい)ます。 島(しま)や田舎(いなか)という閉ざさ(とざさ)れた世界(せかい)から形成(けいせい)される、その土地(とち)の人々(ひとびと)の人間性(にんげんせい)について話し(はなし)てみました。 I met a friend who had moved from Osaka to Shikoku for the first time in a long while. Feeling doubtful about raising children in a big city like Osaka, my friend moved to the nature-rich Shikoku. However, it seems that they had trouble fitting into the social dynamics in their new environment. Rather than just interpersonal relationships, they said they struggled to adapt to the mindset and behaviors of the people there, which were influenced by the unique characteristics of Shikoku as an island. This is not something limited to Shikoku—it can also be said about Okinawa and even Japan as a whole. We talked about the cultural traits shaped by the closed worlds of islands and rural areas. 日本（にほん）では先進国（せんしんこく）の中（なか）でも給料（きゅうりょう）安（やす）いと言（い）われていますが、大学（だいがく）卒業（そつぎょう）した人（ひと）の給料（きゅうりょう）が4月（しがつ）からかなり上（あ）がるというニュースを聞（き）きました。同時（どうじ）に、第（だい）2次（じ）ベビーブーマーの私（わたし）の世代（せだい）は、人口（じんこう）が多（おお）く、大学（だいがく）入学（にゅうがく）も大変（たいへん）で、かつバブル崩壊（ほうかい）直後（ちょくご）で就職（しゅうしょく）も難（むずか）しく、給料（きゅうりょう）も安（やす）いという最悪（さいあく）な時代（じだい）を生（い）きてきたと言（い）われています。確（たし）かに厳（きび）しい時代（じだい）でしたが、振（ふ）り返（かえ）ってみると今（いま）の若（わか）い子（こ）達（たち）の生（い）きている世界（せかい）より、私（わたし）たちが若（わか）かった時代（じだい）の方（ほう）がもっとシンプルで楽（たの）しかったと思（おも）います。今回（こんかい）は30年（さんじゅうねん）前（まえ）の日本（にほん）と今（いま）の日本（にほん）とを比（くら）べて、本当（ほんとう）の幸福（こうふく）とは？ということを考（かんが）えてみました。 In Japan, it is said that salaries are low among developed countries, but I heard news that the salaries of university graduates will increase significantly from April. Kitakyushu City is in Fukuoka Prefecture, but it’s right next to Yamaguchi Prefecture, so we also explored the charm of Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi has been featured in The New York Times , but we have never been there. We looked into what makes it so appealing. 10月(じゅうがつ) の 終(お) わりに、2 年(ねん) ぶりに 大阪(おおさか) に 旅行(りょこう) してきました！2 年前(ねんまえ) はまだコロナの 影響(えいきょう) も 少(すこ)しあり、 観光客(かんこうきゃく)も少(すく)なめでしたが、今回は大阪(おおさか)の中心部(ちゅうしんぶ) 、心斎橋(しんさいばし) あたりは 観光客(かんこうきゃく) で 溢(あふ)れていました。世界中(せかいじゅう) からの 観光客(かんこうきゃく)でいっぱいで、大阪弁(おおさかべん)はおろか、日本語(にほんご) すらあまり 聞(き) こえてこない 状況(じょうきょう) で 驚(おどろ) きました。そんな 中(なか) でいつも 通(どお)り、串カツ(くしかつ) を 食(た)べたり、大阪(おおさか) グルメを 堪能(たんのう) しましたが、それ 以外(いがい) にも今回は アメリカ村(むら) でたくさんのかっこいい 古着(ふるぎ) を 見(み)つけ、新(あたら) しい 大阪(おおさか) の 楽し(たの) みを 見(み)つけました。大阪(おおさか) に 旅行(りょこう) する 予定(よてい) のある 人(ひと) には 役(やく)にたつアドバイスもしていますので、参考(さんこう)にしてください。 At the end of October, I traveled to Osaka for the first time in two years! Two years ago, there was still some impact from COVID-19, and there weren’t many tourists. This time, however, the central area of Osaka, around Shinsaibashi, was overflowing with tourists. It was packed with visitors from all over the world, and I was surprised to hardly hear any Japanese, let alone the Osaka dialect. As usual, I enjoyed some kushikatsu and indulged in Osaka’s famous gourmet foods. But this time, I also discovered a new side of Osaka by finding lots of cool vintage clothes in Ame-Mura (America Village). 今回は高校生(こうこうせい)討論(とうろん)シリーズの最終回(さいしゅうかい)として、恋愛観(れんあいかん)について討論(とうろん)してもらいました。過去(かこ)2回(にかい)は意見(いけん)の違(ちが)いが大(おお)きく出(で)なかった2人(ふたり)ですが、今回は男女(だんじょ)の考(かんが)え方(かた)の違(ちが)いが大(おお)きく出(で)たようです。途中(とちゅう)、とらくんが過激(かげき)な発言(はつげん)をすることがありますが、不快(ふかい)に思(おも)わず受(う)け流(なが)していただけると助(たす)かります。(笑) This time, as the final episode of the High School Debate Series, we had a discussion about perspectives on love. In the fifth week, I went to a small island called Tioman Island and went diving. I also had many wonderful encounters, and it was the week where I interacted with the most people and had the most valuable experiences during my five weeks. マレーシア生活（せいかつ）２週間（にしゅうかん）が経（た）ちました。初（はじ）めの１週間（いっしゅうかん）は生活（せいかつ）に慣（な）れるのが精一杯（せいいっぱい）で、なかなかクアラルンプールを楽し（たの）めず、ポッドキャストでもあまりポジティブな報告（ほうこく）ができなかった私（わたし）たちですが、１週目（いっしゅうめ）と違（ちが）って２週目（にしゅうめ）は、少（すこ）しこちらの生活（せいかつ）にも慣（な）れて、二人（ふたり）とも前向（まえむ）きなことが言（い）えるようになりました。とらくんはバドミントンを通（つう）じて学校（がっこう）でも友達（ともだち）ができ、学校（がっこう）が楽（たの）しくなったようです。私（わたし）もジムのスタッフと仲良（なかよ）くなったりで、趣味（しゅみ）を持（も）つことが海外生活（かいがいせいかつ）でとても重要（じゅうよう）なんだなということに気（き）づきました。１週目（いっしゅうめ）と違（ちが）ってだいぶ前向（まえむ）きになった私（わたし）たちの生活（せいかつ）を聞（き）いてください。 It has been two weeks since we started living in Malaysia. In the first week, we were so focused on getting used to life here that we couldn’t really enjoy Kuala Lumpur, and we weren’t able to share many positive updates in the podcast. However, unlike the first week, by the second week, we’ve gotten a bit more accustomed to life here, and both of us can now speak more positively. Tora has made friends at school through badminton, and it seems like he’s started to enjoy school. I’ve also become friends with the gym staff, which made me realize how important it is to have hobbies when living abroad. 7月末(がつまつ)からとらくんとマレーシアに来(き)ています。今回（こんかい）はマレーシアから録音(ろくおん)してお送(おく)りしています。実(じつ)は日本(にほん)からマレーシアまで私(わたし)たち2人(にん)は別々(べつべつ)の航空会社(こうくうがいしゃ)で来(き)ました。とらくんはシンガポール航空(こうくう)、私(わたし)は日本航空(にほんこうくう)です。かつて機内(きない)サービス世界(せかい)１だったシンガポール航空(こうくう)ですが、とらくんはあまり満足(まんぞく)できなかったようです。私(わたし)の乗(の)った日本航空(にほんこうくう)はサービスもよくて大満足(だいまんぞく)でした。そんな機内(きない)でのサービスについて、２つの航空会社(こうくうがいしゃ)を比較(ひかく)しながら話(はな)しました。 Since the end of July, Tora-kun and I have been in Malaysia. 今（いま）「The Crown」というドラマにハマっています。エリザベス女王（じょおう）のストーリーを通（とお）して、イギリスの王室制度（おうしつせいど）、結婚観（けっこんかん）、日本（にほん）の皇室制度（こうしつせいど）との違（ちが）いなどなど、学（まな）ぶことがたくさんありました。特（とく）に、恋愛（れんあい）や結婚（けっこん）が大（おお）きく関係（かんけい）してくる王室内（おうしつない）の生活（せいかつ）は、日本（にほん）と比（くら）べて大（おお）きく違（ちが）っていてとても興味深（きょうみぶか）いものでした。私（わたし）が感（かん）じた個人的（こじんてき）なドラマの感想（かんそう）を話（はな）しています。あくまでもドラマについての個人的（こじんてき）な感想（かんそう）であり、実際（じっさい）のイギリス王室（おうしつ）や国王（こくおう）を批判（ひはん）したものではありませんので、ご了承（りょうしょう）ください。笑 I am currently hooked on the drama "The Crown." Through Queen Elizabeth's story, I have learned a lot about the British monarchy, views on marriage, and the differences from the Japanese imperial system. 5月（ごがつ）の半（なか）ばに埼玉（さいたま）県（けん）所沢（ところざわ）でのコンサートのために、東京（とうきょう）に行（い）ってきました。宿泊（しゅくはく）したのは池袋（いけぶくろ）の西側（にしがわ）だったのですが、今回（こんかい）初（はじ）めて訪（おとず）れて知（し）った池袋（いけぶくろ）西側（にしがわ）の夜（よる）の顔（かお）に驚（おどろ）いた、というエピソードを中心（ちゅうしん）に、所沢（ところざわ）のアクセスの悪（わる）さ、特（とく）にコンサート後（あと）に味（あじ）わった混雑（こんざつ）の話（はなし）を紹介（しょうかい）しています。コンサート自体（じたい）はとても良（よ）かったのですが、それを上回（うわまわ）るほどのエピソードが盛（も）りだくさんの東京（とうきょう）旅行（りょこう）でした。東京（とうきょう）に旅行（りょこう）する予定（よてい）のある人（ひと）はぜひ参考（さんこう）にしてみてください。 In mid-May, we went to Tokyo for a concert in Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture. We stayed on the west side of Ikebukuro, and we were surprised by the nightlife there, which we encountered for the first time. This episode focuses on the other face of the west side of Ikebukuro and the difficulty of accessing Tokorozawa, especially the congestion we experienced after the concert. While the concert itself was very good, there are many interesting, surprising, and memorable episodes from our trip to Tokyo.
