Everything John the Baptist said and did pointed people to the Messiah; that was the work God had given him. When Jesus came along, John's primary mission was complete. He would decrease, but Christ would increase. The 2 things John said about Jesus that are most striking are these: 1) Jesus is the Lamb of God; and 2) Jesus is the Son of God.
