On the eve of their disappearance, friends Suzanne Streeter and Stacy McCall celebrated their graduation from Kickapoo High School in Springfield by attending various graduation parties. As reported by the Charley Project, an online resource dedicated to missing persons cases, the two women drove separately to Streeter's residence after the festivities, intending to spend the night there. The Springfield Police Department noted that they were last seen at approximately 2:15 a.m. on June 7.

Sherill Levitt, Streeter's mother, was last in contact with a friend around 11:15 p.m. on June 6. When authorities arrived at the residence the following day, they observed that her bed appeared to have been slept in, and all of her personal belongings were still present. Investigators believe that the women were taken sometime between 2:15 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. on June 7.
