Episode 10

For this episode, we’re doing a special LIVE recording of the Make the Future podcast at the University of Ottawa’s Kanata North offices in front of a wonderful audience to discuss one of our favorite subjects, combining engineering and arts, more precisely: Creativity, VR and Engineering Design!

We’re joined once again by Hanan Anis, Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Ottawa, by Chantal Rodier the Faculty of Engineering’s Artist-in-Residence and Elisha Pruner, a two-time uOttawa Engineering alumna part of the first CEED cohort who currently works as a Software Developer in Machine Learning and Virtual Reality at the Ottawa Hospital.

Time Stamp Episode 10

2 :41- Why engineering design is important to students and industry.
4:40- A question for Elisha about the experience of being part of the first Makerspace cohort at uOttawa.
6:40- The usefulness of having a client based experience as a student.
10:10- The need for a multidisciplinary focus in the training of tech students.
12:20- How having this multidisciplinary experience helped Elisha outside of the university.
13:45- A description of this year’s Makerspace challenge VR challenge at uOttawa.
19:00- A look at the need for the mix between art and tech. While things may be functional, they can be “ugly”.
22:40- A client based VR experience for cancer patients.
24:34- Questions from the crowd
