In today’s episode we talk with human rights activist Jamal about the colonial occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco and the decades-long decolonial struggle of the Sahrawi people. We start the discussion by going over the chronology of the occupation, discussing the main international actors and their interests in the region, and how these interests ignore the rights and demands of the majority local Sahrawi population. We talk about the imperial and extractivist logic that drives Morocco, and how the EU is failing to uphold international law in exchange for access to fisheries, green energy and other benefits.
