“Parents, pastors, politicians, military commanders, law enforcement, legal authorities, bosses and bullies all posses a certain amount of leverage to motivate those they lead. By carrot or stick, by reward or punishment, by consequences and circumstances the desired outcome can be directed. What happens when those you lead are not under the shadow of your appointed authority? How do you motivate those who do not rely on you for safety, security, shelter, income, position, power or employment? When you have no means to reward them directly and no means to negotiate via consequences, how do you get results?”
