Minter Dialogue with Reverend Rob Schenck

Over his 40+-year career, Rob Schenck has become known as an accessible public theologian. An ordained evangelical minister, he has directed a home for recovering heroin addicts, led pastoral and missionary work around the globe, took a 2000-mile walk to Mexico to benefit some of the poorest people on earth, and spent 30 years as an influential political activist on the religious right that put him at the epicenter of some of the US' most pivotal moments. In 2015, Rob was the subject of "The Armor of Light," Abigail Disney’s Emmy-winning documentary film examining Evangelicals and the gun culture, putting him in the crosshairs of controversy. Rob is also the author of the widely-read book, "Costly Grace: An Evangelical Minister’s Rediscovery of Faith, Hope and Love," published by Harper. For the last several years, Rob founded and ran the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Institute to continue the work Bonhoeffer began in reforming the evangelical church. In this conversation, we discuss his life's work, the film, his experiences in holding intimate conversations with US presidents, Supreme Court justices and senior politicians, as well as with God.
