Terrance Hobbs has been the guitarist of influential legendary New York death metal band Suffocation for more than 30 years.

Part of the original wave of death metal musicians he introduced a level of technical proficiency, blast beats, and breakdowns creating a significantly heavier sound in the genre.

We chat about the evolution of heavy metal, how it went from thrash to death metal, the legendary Morrisound Recording Studios, and the often asked question, “why aren’t there more black musicians interested in heavy metal”?
