Your Nightly Prayer 🙏🏾 Psalm 22:1
Surely every man walks around like a shadow [in a charade]; Surely they make an uproar for nothing; Each one builds up riches, not knowing who will receive them. [Eccl 2:18, 19; 1 Cor 7:31; James 4:14]”
Psalms 39:6 AMP
DEVOTION
Based on Psalm 39
Society tells us that we will feel secure by collecting things, equating our possessions with our happiness and peace of mind. Yet God’s Word tells us to find our security in Him because God has purposes for us far beyond what we gain for ourselves. When we seek Him, we become rich in heavenly possessions and in the security of knowing God as our Savior. Our priorities are realigned in light of eternity.
Breathe in and exhale the day. In your mind, let go of the things you think you need to be fulfilled and turn to God with your whole heart. As you meditate on the words from tonight’s psalm, let Him be enough for you in this moment.
A.C.T.S. REFLECTION
ADORATION:
Spend a few moments thinking about how perfectly God has planned out your life and how He desires what is best for you. Remember that His love for you will never perish, whereas material possessions will. Worship Him for the glory of His presence, which gives hope for lasting joy and life with Him.
CONFESSION:
Think of a time when you put your hope in the things of this world, like wealth or professional success. Confess the things in your life you have put above God. Ask for God’s forgiveness, knowing that true joy is found in aligning yourself with Him. Pray He will help you prioritize what's important to Him in your life.
THANKSGIVING:
Thank God for the days He has given you in your life. Thank Him for the family and friends He has blessed you with. Thank Him for the good gifts He has given to you to enjoy.
SUPPLICATION:
Lord, I turn to You and ask that You deliver me from buying unnecessary things and planning my life for temporary gain. Help me to enjoy the abundance You've given me with the proper perspective that these things don't bring the deep and lasting fulfillment I can only get from You. Guide my thoughts and actions to be motivated by eternal value rather than worldly gain. I surrender my life to You and rest in the loving care I know You have for me. In Your sweet name, I pray. Amen.
PRAYER
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my groaning?”
PSALM 22:1
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your sacrificial love and the pain You endured on the cross for my sins. It was You who cried out on a cross, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?” You endured the painful separation from God that I deserved, all so I could enter into the presence and embrace of God. I know prayer and connection came at a cost - Your life. Help me remember that when I feel alone and distant from You. Like David, I can often feel isolated and distant from You, but help me not forget that I can access You because of Your loving sacrifice. I can sleep soundly, assured of Your love for me. In Your Holy name, I pray, Amen.
