How is the war between Israel, Hamas & the Palestinians affecting you and your family?
Like most Western countries across the globe, there have been ongoing and increased incidents of antisemitism, Islamophobia & bullying in Canada prior to and since October 7th. As a result, police protection and patrols have been heavily ramped-up in most Jewish neighbourhoods.
Given Canada’s diverse multicultural background and zero-tolerance hate policy, regardless of what side you stand on, hurling insults & threats, proclaiming Days of Revenge, spreading hate on University & College campuses, and organizing demonstrations that put Jewish & Non-Jewish lives, communities & businesses in danger, are wrong and all too familiar of 1930’s Nazi Germany.
In this Janette’s TV & Janette’s TV Podcast episode, I’m joined by Michelle Outmezguine, York Region District School Board Grade 5 Educator & Advocate for Antisemitism, Bullying, and Israel’s Rights. Through her EFTO union, Michelle has made motions to create an antisemitism task force and Jewish Heritage Month Poster. She has also developed Social Studies resources for the government’s new antisemitism curriculum expectations and written letters to various organizations objecting to speakers who have a history of anti-Israel advocacy.
From both her & her Muslim colleagues’ experiences, Michelle and I discuss what is going on in classrooms across Ontario, Canada & the world, what teachers & parents can do to objectively filter news their children are exposed to, the freedom & understanding we all truly want, and how we can all live cohesively.
