Meta decided to be a metaverse company and now wants to be an AI company. But open source AI models don't lead to revenue, and Meta's main strategies to monetize AI are questionable. Nonetheless, Meta's advertising business is booming, and the ban on TikTok may lead to lesser competition in short-form video. While Meta has successfully leveraged AI to improve their advertising algorithms, their plans to massively increase expenditures on AI for an unknown period of time before it can be monetized has spooked investors.
