4:20 pm The elections last week in Sri Lanka have ushered in a new Marxist president Anura Kumara Dissanayake, commonly referred to by his initials AKD, who will serve as the tenth President of Sri Lanka since 1972. Elected an anti-corruption platform, he has called for snap elections for the 225-member parliament in order to garner a majority for his 3-member party to form a ruling coalition. He faces enormous hurdles since the country’s economic collapse two years ago. We asked Sri Lankan expatriate and local immigration attorney Chiro Nanayakkara to put things in perspective.
5:00 pm The coronavirus is resurging again and medical professionals are warning that we should take precautions against a wider spread, especially among the elderly and young. There is even a new vaccine out which people are encouraged to take, and many are wearing maskswhen they travel. We're joined today by coronavirus researcher Dr. Benjamin Neuman, a professor of biology and researcher at Texas A&M University to help answer people’s questions about viruses.
5:20 pm Emaan Syed is a dedicated and driven teenage leader who has taken on numerous leadership roles and made remarkablecontributions. As the Director of Finance at AliefVotes, she oversees a $200,000 operating budget and financial strategies to support voter education and engagement. She is also working toward graduating with her high school diploma and an associate's degree in science. She joins us today to share what makes her so driven.
5:40 pm Our frequent guest host, Kapil Sharma, is on a vacation in India and visiting family in New Delhi. We asked him to call in LIVE to report on how things are going in his hometown and hope that we are lucky enough to reach him as it is early morning there. Kapil is deeply analytical, so his report should be a treat for the Delhiites listening in.
