Episode 1 America's Health Problem stems from its lack of Health Equity for all citizens. Health is a fundamental human right, but Equity is still a struggle for he who was once considered 3/5 of a man. This perception of race superiority influences the distribution of power and resources that negatively impact the Social Determinants of Health for Black people.
The “father of modern gynecology” Dr. J. Marion Sims performed experiments on Black female slaves without anesthesia. Today, Black women remain at the highest risk of death during childbirth.
