When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Learn more at www.lbi.org/kollisch . Exile is a production of the Leo Baeck Institute , New York | Berlin and Antica Productions . It’s narrated by Mandy Patinkin. Executive Producers include Katrina Onstad, Stuart Coxe, and Bernie Blum. Senior Producer is Debbie Pacheco. Associate Producers are Hailey Choi and Emily Morantz. Research and translation by Isabella Kempf. Sound design and audio mix by Philip Wilson, with help from Cameron McIver. Theme music by Oliver Wickham. Voice acting by Natalia Bushnik. Special thanks to the Kollisch family for the use of Eva’s two memoirs, “Girl in Movement” and “The Ground Under My Feet”, the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College and their “Voices of Feminism Oral History Project”, and Soundtrack New York.…

×On today’s podcast Cody, Matt, Ricky, Kipp, and Joya talk about trials they’ve faced and how God got them through it, and what He taught them. What is the coolest experience you know God had a hand in? 3. What are some things you wouldn’t want to find in a refrigerator? 4. What are some clear indicators that a person has given up on life? 5. Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump walk into the Colosseum for a fight to the death, who walks out? Related Devotionals Jesus in Your Trials – God has really tested my patience these past two months. I’ve been job searching for nearly 5 months now and nothing seems to work. Either the job is too hard on my knees, interferes with the ministry, or just doesn’t happen. In the past two months God [...]…
On today’s podcast Cody, Matt, and Brian talk about what it means to be a Christ-centered church, and what it looks like to be a Christian-centered church: 1. Related Devotionals Why I Almost Quit Christianity – What you will read in this article might make you cry, offended, free, or hurt. For those of you who will read this and be hurt, angry, or in any sense offended, I do truly apologize. I didn’t write this article to bash a church, pastor, church family, or theology. I wrote this article because I had a bad experience in a church and have found many others who have had the exact same experience. I’m not here to hurt those in that church or to anger anyone; I’m here to tell my story and why I think it happened. Some of you might read this and be set free, you might [...]…

How far is East from West? 2. Where was God in the Chattanooga shooting? 3. What should and shouldn’t you put butter on? Related Devotionals Six Ways It Still Is Finished – When Jesus said, “It is finished” at the climax of scripture itself in John 19:30, he meant what he said. He meant Tetelestai. Tetelestai is a Greek word that would be used on debts in the days of Christ. When a debt had been paid in full and nothing was left over to be owed they would write “Tetelestai” and the fullness of the debt would be absolved in the payment of the debt. What debt was Jesus absolving on the cross? The debt of perfect obedience we owed to God, “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of [...]…
