According to Harvard Business Review, developing a diverse leadership pipeline can benefit companies in all sectors. Firms with the most ethnically diverse executive teams were 33% more likely to outperform their peers on profitability, and those with executive-level gender diversity worldwide had a 21% likelihood of outperforming their industry competitors. A recent study of VC firms found that more-diverse teams had higher financial returns than their homogenous counterparts.
The problem is that, to date, companies have not been great at promoting women of color to senior roles. And this isn’t for lack of ambition among them: Black women are even more likely to aspire to hold a powerful position with a prestigious title than white women. And yet black women’s advancement into leadership roles has remained stagnant…
Today we are going to discuss the challenges of Bossin’ Up As A FTBW with our guest, Toshia. Toshia is a native of Philadelphia (West Philly, born and raised). She was educated K-12 in the Philadelphia public school system and then went on to the University of Pittsburgh to major in Psychology. After getting several years of professional experience under her belt, she received her Master’s of Public Health. The majority of Toshia’s career has been working with a large non profit organization where she specialized in grant making and project management. The issues that she worked on centered on quality early childhood education and strengthening child care owners’ business practices. She is married to a loving and supportive husband and has a toddler daughter who she loves and adores.
